Here are the top three stories in Five Towns today:

  1. A 31-year-old Valley Stream man who crashed into a school bus on Sound Avenue in Riverhead Thursday evening has died. John Caputo crossed into the opposite lane and struck a Riverhead Central School District bus. (Riverhead News Review)
  2. Town of Hempstead and Nassau County officials and some residents met to protest the zoning proposal in Gov. Kathy Hochul’s 2022-23 state budget. They gathered outside an East Meadow home last week voice their opposition to “Section AA” which would eliminate single-family zoning across the state, allowing single-family homes to be turned into Accessory Dwelling Units or apartments by converting basements, garages and attics into separate dwellings.   3. At a special meeting last Thursday, the Valley Stream District 13 Board of Education voted to lift the district’s indoor masking requirements after the statewide mask mandate ends. (LI Herald)
