Tax Exemptions For Faith-Based Groups

The NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is requiring all NYC faith-based groups that have a 4-20A or 4-20B (not-for-profit) property tax exemption to file exemption renewal documentation in order to continue receiving their property tax exemption.

Previously, faith-based institutions weren't required by DOF to renew their exemptions on an annual basis, so there may be some confusion over this new requirement to continue having your property tax exemption.

Institutions who receive an exemption must fill out a renewal form for EACH property they own no later than the deadline indicated in the letter(s) you receive from DOF.   Institutions that fail to file the paperwork will lose their property tax exemption, so it's important to file your exemption form by the deadline.
