Clinton Hill Phone Robbery: Woman Tricked Into Giving $9.5k

Cops are looking for a man who allegedly told a woman on the phone that he was her friend, and he had been arrested and needed bail money.

CLINTON HILL, BROOKLYN — Cops are looking for a man who allegedly prank called a 66-year-old woman in Clinton Hill and tricked her into thinking he had been arrested and needed immediate bail money. On Oct. 21, 2016 at around 3:20 p.m. the suspect called the woman on her home phone and posed as her friend, cops said. He told her he was under arrest and asked her for $9,500 in cash in bail money.

The woman agreed to give him the money, and he arrived at her apartment in a green four-door sedan and collected the sum from her, cops said. After he left her apartment, the woman received another call asking for more money. She became suspicious, and she called her friend directly and discovered that he hadn't actually been arrested, cops said.

The suspect is described as a black man, 25 to 30 years old, with a slim build, dark complexion, no facial hair and a dark birthmark on the left side of his face.
