Dairy Distributor Expects To Move Warehouse To Freeport

Natural Foods plans to relocate 50 employees and hire 50 workers for the new Freeport location in the next two years.

FREEPORT, NY — A wholesale daily distributor with facilities in Inwood is planning to purchase a warehouse in Freeport to consolidate operations.

The Town of Hempstead Industrial Development Agency has given preliminary approval to economic benefits for Queens-based company Natural Foods Inc.

Established in 2004, Natural Foods transports organic, natural and dairy products to more than 900 stores.

Natural Foods and 149 Hanse Development intend to purchase and renovate an existing
67,307 square foot industrial building on 2.3 acres at 149 Hanse Ave. in the Village of Freeport. The site formerly housed Columbia Cement Co.

The building will be updated with energy-efficient state-of-the-art equipment, The IDA said.

"In addition to generating many new employment opportunities for the town and
The Village of Freeport, this project will rehabilitate a long-vacant building and
generate new revenues for the various taxing authorities," IDA Chairman Fred Parola said. "We are pleased to begin the process of incentivizing the project."

Natural Foods intends to relocate 50 employees from 475 Doughty Blvd., Inwood
and from the Forest Hills facility, while creating another 50 jobs within two years of the
completion of the $10 million project.
