Free Breast Cancer Screenings For Long Island Residents

Nassau County Legislator Kevan Abrahams is coordinating the mammograms on Thursday in Roosevelt.

FREEPORT, NY — A local legislator is partnering with NuHealth and community organizations for breast cancer screenings.

Nassau County Legislator Kevan Abrahams (D- Freeport) announced the latest screening on Thursday in Roosevelt.

The appointment includes a breast exam from a nurse, a mammography and self-exam instructions.

Women 40 and older are eligible for mammograms with no out-of-pocket cost. Patients with health insurance must bring a prescription from a physician and, if possible, film from any past exams.

It takes place, by appointment only, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Town of Hempstead parking lot at Western Beef on Nassau Road.

Sisters United in Health/Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Support Program will send gift cards to those receiving screenings, Abrahams office said.
