LI Man Drove Drunk With Baby Boy, 1, In Car: Police

The East Patchogue man was arrested in Freeport Thursday, police say.

FREEPORT, NY — An East Patchogue man was arrested Thursday after driving while intoxicated with a baby boy, 1, in the car, police said.

According to Nassau County police, Envey Garcia Zambrano, 29, was arrested at 12:13 a.m. Officers on the special enforcement team observed Garcia Zambrano, who was driving a black 2007 Honda, commit multiple vehicle and traffic law infractions while traveling on Parsons Avenue.

Freeport officers activated their emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Lakeview Avenue, police said. Garcia Zambrano had glassy eyes, slurred speech, and had an odor of alcohol emanating from his breath, police said. A standard field sobriety test was conducted with positive results, police said.

Garcia Zambrano was placed under arrest without incident and charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child under 16, a felony under Leandra’s Law; endangering the welfare of a child; driving while intoxicated and multiple traffic infractions, police said.

He was slated for arraignment on Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.

No injuries were reported and the baby was safely released into the custody of a family member who was also a passenger in the vehicle, police said.
