Longtime Freeport Scout Leader 'Tirelessly Gives Of His Time'

FREEPORT, NY — Without community leaders, Freeport wouldn’t hum along nearly as smoothly as it does. We’d miss their contributions in big and small ways.

Patch has partnered with T-Mobile to recognize these often unsung community leaders and celebrate their contributions. This submission comes from Cathy Vodopivec, a Freeport reader who nominated Lawrence Louis Vodopivec.

How do you know this community leader? Involvement with Scouts BSA- formerly Boy Scouts of America

What does this community leader do? Has started 2 Scouting Units in Freeport and Baldwin. Also rows canoes with Adults with Down Syndrome summer program as a volunteer, and a member of Bradley Council Knights of Columbus.

Why do you believe the community leader should be recognized or honored? He has positive influences and guides many youth in Scouting to form future leaders. He devotes hundreds of hours a year to the youth in the community. He is humble, caring and a perfect role model.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the community hero? He cares about each youth member of Boys Scouts, Sea Scouts and Cub Scouts as if they were his own children. He tirelessly gives of his time with little if any thanks.
