Man With Loaded Gun Found During Nassau Traffic Stop: Police

The man was speeding when officers stopped him and found a loaded Taurus 0.40-caliber handgun inside his Dodge, police say.

ROOSEVELT, NY — A man was arrested in connection with possession of a loaded gun during a traffic stop in Roosevelt early Wednesday, Nassau police said.

First Precinct officers saw a 2016 Dodge Charger traveling south on Babylon Turnpike at a high speed around 1 a.m., police said. Officers stopped Victor Lemanya, 19, of Roosevelt, who was driving the Dodge, near the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and St. Francis Street, police said.

Officers investigated and found a loaded Taurus 0.40-caliber handgun inside the Dodge, police said. Lemanya was arrested without incident, police said.

Lemanya was charged with criminal possession of a firearm; second-degree criminal possession of a weapon; fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon; and multiple vehicle and traffic law infractions.

He was scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday at First District Court, at 99 Main St., Hempstead.
