Nassau Woman Assaulted Detective With Traffic Cone: Police

Police say the detective was at her house when she hit him with the cone, injuring his arm.

FREEPORT, NY — Nassau County police today reported the arrest of a Freeport woman on Dec. 10 for assaulting a police officer.

According to police, officers were at a home on Queen Street in Freeport at 6 p.m. on Dec. 10. While they were investigating, police say 19-year-old Daysi Sanchez Martinez, who lived at the home, approached a detective with an orange traffic cone. Police say she swung the cone at the detective, injuring his arm.

After a brief struggle, police say they placed Sanchez Martinez under arrest.

Sanchez Martinez is charged with two counts of second-degree assault, obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest and second-degree harassment. She was arriagned on Dec. 11 in First District Court in Hempstead.
