Police ID Female Pedestrian Killed In Nassau Crash

FREEPORT, NY — The female pedestrian killed in a Freeport crash Wednesday night has been identified as Lourdes Sulfa Sanchez, 51, of Lindenhurst, police said.

According to the Nassau County police, the homicide squad is investigating the crash, which took place on Wednesday at 6:58 p.m.

While attempting to cross Merrick Road in the vicinity of Henry Street, from the north side to the south side, Sulfa Sanchez was struck by a 2008 Volkswagen traveling east on Merrick Road, detectives said.

She suffered trauma to her head and body; she was transported to an area hospital and was pronounced dead at 7:33 p.m. by a hospital physician, police said.

The male driver, 62, remained at the scene; no charges were filed, police said.

An investigation is ongoing, police said.
