Rocky Horror Comes to Life on the Nautical Mile
Celebrating 50 years of the Cult Classic
The Rocky Horror Picture Show opened this weekend down at the Famous Nautical Mile in Freeport on Long Island. Returning for a second year being hosted at Sparkle on Stage, a community non-profit theater that hosts a variety of live events.
The crowd was eager to participate both nights, dancing to the "Time Warp", singing and shouting along with the film, and throwing their props on cue.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show holds the record for being the longest running movie in theaters. The movie initially flopped upon release, but found its way into the hearts of many with midnight showings in the late 70's and early 80's. Audience participation and "shadowcasting" (when performers act alongside a film) have become a part of the film's culture to this day.
