Issues of food insecurity and pandemic impact have made the assistance of Stop & Shop and Long Island Cares so important, which includes allowing them to hold traditional family holiday celebrations.

According to Long Island Cares Inc, The Harry Chapin Food Bank, forty-two percent of the 218,000 food-insecure people on Long Island are not eligible for SNAP benefits based on Federal Poverty Income Guidelines. They are the working poor. These families have an annual income of $50 - $70,000 a year and still struggle with food insecurity.
