Two Roosevelt Students Honored with Physical Education Award
Washington Rose Students Receive Honor from NYS Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance

Washington Rose Elementary School is proud to announce that fifth-grade students Emely Sanchez and Kayden Lindsay have been named recipients of the 2025 Outstanding Physical Education Elementary and Middle School Award by the Nassau Zone of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (NYS AHPERD).
“We are incredibly proud of Emely and Kayden for their dedication and passion that led them to earning this well-deserved honor,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Shawn Wightman. “Their commitment to wellness and their outstanding character make them shining examples of what our students are accomplishing here at Roosevelt.”
The award ceremony, held on April 30th at Mineola High School, celebrated the achievements of students across the region who exemplify a commitment to physical fitness and positive character. Emely and Kayden represented both their school and the Roosevelt community with pride as they accepted the honor alongside their physical education teachers.

This prestigious recognition is awarded annually to outstanding fifth graders who not only lead active and healthy lifestyles in and out of school, but who also demonstrate exceptional sportsmanship, character, civility, and citizenship. Emely and Kayden have consistently stood out as positive role models in their physical education classes, achieving remarkable scores on their fitness assessments through dedication and hard work.
