Nassau Pedestrian Dies Weeks After June 10 Crash

A Uniondale​ man was walking around 10 p.m. on June 10 when he was hit by a 2018 Mercedes-Benz sedan, police say. He died of his injuries.

UNIONDALE, NY — A pedestrian who was hit by a car earlier this month in Uniondale has died from his injuries, police said.

Sergio Vera, 60, of Uniondale, was walking on Front Street at New York Avenue around 10 p.m. June 10 when he was hit by a 2018 Mercedes-Benz sedan, police said.

The man was hospitalized with serious head injuries and listed in critical condition. Police said Thursday morning that he later died of his injuries.

The sedan driver, identified by police as Eric Wheatley, 44, of Uniondale, was arrested about an hour after the crash and faces charges of vehicular assault and DWI.
