West Babylon Man Arrested After Driving Intoxicated With 4-Year-Old In Car: Police

A traffic stop was initiated by police in the vicinity of South Ocean Avenue and West Sunrise Highway, police say.

WEST BABYLON, NY – A West Babylon man was arrested after driving while intoxicated with a 4-year-old in the car on Tuesday, police said.

According to police, Freeport officers initiated a traffic stop after observing the passenger throw a bottle out the car window.

Police said the driver exhibited signs of intoxication.

Anthony Furtado, 60, was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated and endangering the welfare of a child, police said. Driving intoxicated with a minor child in the vehicle is a felony charge under Leandra's Law.

The 4-year-old girl was in the back seat of the car, and she was released to a family member, police said.
