Boat With 4 Onboard Capsizes Near Jones Inlet: PD

The water rescue took place Sunday morning, police say.

HEMPSTEAD, NY — Four people were rescued after their boat capsized Sunday morning off Lido Beach, police said.

According to Nassau County police, the incident took place at 10 a.m. Marine 6 of the Nassau County Police Department's marine bureau unit was actively monitoring VHF radio frequencies when they heard reports of a capsized vessel near Jones Inlet with four passengers aboard, police said.

Upon arrival, officials saw that the four passengers had all safely reached a nearby sandbar and were transported by the Town of Hempstead bay constables, with the assistance of Marine 6, to Point Lookout, police said.

The capsized 16-foot fishing boat was successfully retrieved by Sea Tow; no injuries were reported at scene, police said.
