Car Thieves Ditch Vehicle, Get Away From Cops: Nassau Police
Police said officers stopped the theft of a car from a Hempstead dealership in the early morning hours, but the thieves fled.
HEMPSTEAD, NY — Nassau County police stopped a car theft in progress on Jan. 13, but the thieves got away.
Officers were on patrol on Franklin Avenue in Mineola, near the intersection of Old Country Road, at 3:54 a.m. when they saw two car heading north on Franklin Avenue with no license plates, police said.
The officers activated their lights and pulled over the two cars — a 2019 Chrysler 300 and a dark-colored sedan. Police said the driver of the Chrysler got out of the car, ran into the sedan, and they all drove off east on Old Country Road.

The Chrysler was found to have been stolen from Seamless Auto Store, located at 189 North Franklin St. in Hempstead earlier.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
