Elderly Woman Dies After Being Hit By Car: Police
Police say the 81-year-old woman was hit while crossing a road over the weekend, and later died from her injuries.
HEMPSTEAD, NY — An 81-year-old woman died on Monday from injuries she sustained over the weekend when she was hit by a car while crossing a street in Hempstead.
According to police, 81-year-old Apolonia Montejos, of Hempstead, was walking north on Bennet Avenue and crossing Fulton Avenue at 5:30 p.m. Saturday when she was hit by a 2019 Ford cargo van. The van was turning left from Bennet Avenue onto Fulton Avenue.
The woman was taken to a hospital in critical condition. She died from her injuries Monday morning.

The driver of the van remained at the scene. Police performed a brake and safety test on the van. The investigation is ongoing.
