HEMPSTEAD, NY. — Just two months after being named town supervisor in Hempstead, John Ferretti, Jr. won reelection for the seat Tuesday, defeating Joe Scianablo with 88,534 votes, or 53.25 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results from the Nassau County Board of Elections.

Scianablo received 77,639 votes, which equates to 46.7 percent of the vote.

Ferretti was named Town Supervisor in August after former supervisor Don Clavin stepped down to run for office as a Nassau County Judge. A Nassau County Supreme Court Judge ruled last month that the process to appoint Ferretti as supervisor in August had violated state open meetings law.

That ruling did not nullify the appointment, nor did it disqualify Ferretti from running for the role on a more permanent basis.

“The Town of Hempstead is my home, and I am honored for this opportunity to serve my fellow residents as Supervisor of this beautiful township,” Ferretti said at his swearing in. “As a proven tax cutter, I am committed to delivering real results by budgeting responsibly while investing in infrastructure, prioritizing public safety, and enhancing our parks.”

Ferretti joins North Hempstead’s Jennifer DeSena and Oyster Bay’s Joseph Saladino to form an all-Republican lineup of Town Supervisors in Nassau County. Ferretti's came on a night when Republicans retained control of several key seats on Long Island, including Nassau County Executive and District Attorney.
