Four Stole More Than $12,000 In Merchandise From Nassau Macy's: Police

Police say the four are tied to a South American thievery ring, which has been responsible for many local thefts.

GARDEN CITY, NY — Four men with ties to a South American thievery ring were arrested earlier this month after police say they stole thousands of dollars of merchandise from Macy's in the Roosevelt Field Mall.

Officers responded to the Macy's, located at 630 Old Country Road in Uniondale, just after 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 9. They began searching the area for a car, which police said fled the area after the theft.

Police said officers found the car driving on Ring Road in Garden City and committing multiple traffic violations, and pulled the car over.

The officers recovered $12,489 worth of Macy's merchandise from the vehicle, police said, which was returned to the store.

Police arrested Wrallan Cabezas Meza, 19, of the Bronx; Jose Garcia Escobar, 30, of Manhattan; Miguel Angel Rojas, 21, of Manhattan; and Rafael Rojas, 27, of Manhattan.

According to Newsday, Nassau County police said the four had ties to a South American thievery ring, which has been responsible for the vast majority of thefts in Nassau County as of late.

All four men were charged with third-degree grand larceny. Meza was additionally charged with multiple traffic violations. They were all arraigned in First District court in Hempstead on Jan. 10. Escobar and Rafael Rojas were released. Court information was not available for Meza or Miguel Rojas.
