Hempstead Man Gets 12 Years In Prison For Attempted Murder 'Ambush'

In 2020, Arem Rodgers fired 11 rounds, injuring a 26-year-old in a building lobby, who "miraculously survived," Nassau prosecutors say.

HEMPSTEAD, NY — A Hempstead man received a 12-year prison sentence for a 2020 shooting "ambush" that left a 26-year-old seriously injured, prosecutors said Thursday.

Arem Rodgers, 52, pleaded guilty to attempted murder in September for the shooting in a Terrace Avenue building lobby. The 26-year-old victim was struck seven times, suffering a lung laceration and other internal injuries.

“This defendant calmly ambushed his victim, firing off 11 rounds in a calculated attempt on the man’s life,” Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly said in a news release.

“After being shot seven times, and sustaining serious physical injuries, the victim miraculously survived. Arem Rodgers tried to take a life and will now suffer the consequences of his actions.”

The shooting happened March 6, 2020. Surveillance video of the shooting showed multiple shots fired through a glass door.
