Multiple Road Closures In Garden City For LIRR Track Work
The MTA will be raising the Cherry Valley overpass and improving the grade crossings at two other locations next month.

GARDEN CITY, NY — A lot of roadwork is coming to the Village of Garden City in the coming weeks. The MTA will be making improvements to multiple railroad crossings around the village in March.
The largest project is raising the Cherry Valley train trestle, and Cherry Valley Avenue will be closed nearly every weekend in March.
First, the road will be closed for 12 hours, from 11 p.m. on Feb. 24 to 11 a.m. on Feb. 25. It will be closed from 9 p.m. on March 3 to 4 a.m. March 5, 9 p.m. on March 10 to 4 a.m. on March 113, and 9 p.m. on March 17 to 4 a.m. on March 20. The road will also close from 9 p.m. on March 31 to 4 a.m. on April 3 for the installation of the new bridge.

The work will also cause a full shutdown of trains on the Hempstead Branch of the LIRR. Buses will run instead.
Also in March, the MTA will be upgrading the grade crossings at Cathedral Avenue and Hilton Avenue.

The Cathedral Avenue grade crossing rehabilitation will happen from March 24-27. Cathedral Avenue will be closed from 9 p.m. on March 24 to 4 a.m. March 27 for the work.
The crossing will have the rubber pads replaced with a concrete pad. In addition, about 20 to 25 feet of the asphalt roadway, both north and south, will be adjusted to make the crossing a smooth transition for vehicles.
Prep work will take place on Feb. 24 starting at 11 p.m., and run until 11 a.m. on Feb. 25.
The date of the Hilton Avenue work has not been set. Detour signs will be placed in the area no later than two days before the start of work, the village said. Prep work will happen from 11 p.m. March 2 to 11 a.m. March 3, and the road will be closed during that time.
