Driver Charged With DWI, Manslaughter In Fatal Crash: Nassau PD

Police say a tow truck struck an SUV and then a van, killing one person and injuring two others.

UPDATE, 4 P.M. — A tow truck driver is facing multiple charges for a fatal crash that occurred in East Garden City yesterday, Nassau County police said.

Police say that James Skow, 57, of Oak Street, Westbury, was responsible for a crash that killed a man and injured two others on Monday.

According to police, Skow was driving a flatbed tow truck hit a red SUV in front of 877 Stewart Ave. at 3:53 p.m. The crash caused the tow truck to then hit a white van.

The driver of the van was killed in the crash. The driver of the SUV, a 54-year-old woman, and her 16-year-old passenger, were both taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of their injuries. Skow was not injured.

Skow was charged with driving while intoxicated, second-degree vehicular manslaughter and second-degree manslaughter. He was arraigned earlier today in First District Court in Hempstead.

ORIGINAL STORY — A multi-car crash Monday afternoon left one person dead and two others injured, Nassau County police said.

According to police, a 57-year-old man driving a flatbed tow truck hit a red SUV in front of 877 Stewart Ave. at 3:53 p.m. The crash caused the tow truck to then hit a white van.

The driver of the van was killed in the crash. The driver of the SUV, a 54-year-old woman, and her 16-year-old passenger, were both taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of their injuries. The tow truck driver was not injured.

Police have not released the names of anyone involved in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
