Nassau Police ID 2 Killed In Hempstead Car Crashes

Two people were killed in separate incidents in Hempstead over the weekend.

HEMPSTEAD, NY — Nassau County police have identified the two people who were killed in car crashes in Hempstead over the weekend.

The first incident occurred at 10:30 p.m. on March 4. Police say 35-year-old Deybin Nunez Fuentes, of Hempstead, was crossing Front Street when he was hit by a 2004 Chevy Impala. Fuentes sustained serious injuries and died at the scene.

The driver, a 56-year-old man, remained at the scene, and police impounded his car for a brake and safety check.

The second incident happened at 7:38 p.m. on March 5. Jermaine Thomas, 45, of Hempstead, was driving a 2013 Honda motorcycle east on Peninsula Boulevard when he was struck by a 72-year-old woman driving a 2014 Honda Accord as she tried to turn left onto Grove Street.

Thomas was taken to a hospital, where he died. Police performed a brake and safety check of the car at the scene.
