Officer Injured Arresting Combative Man: PD

Brian Austin Lackner is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, assault and resisting arrest, police say.

EAST GARDEN CITY, NY — A New Hyde Park man was placed into custody after an incident at the East Garden City Lowe's parking lot on Thursday night, police said.

At approximately 10:45 p.m., officers on routine patrol spotted a man walking in the Lowe's parking lot after hours, police said.

Officers approached the man, who then fled the scene on foot. After a brief foot chase and numerous verbal commands, officers attempted to place him under arrest when he became violent and combative, authorities said.

Brian Austin Lackner, 32, was placed under arrest and transported to a local area hospital for evaluation, police said.

Lackner was found to have a substance believed to be crack cocaine, police said.

During the course of the arrest, an officer sustained injuries and was also transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation.

Lackner is charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree assault and resisting arrest, police said.

He was scheduled to be arraigned on Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.
