Pedestrian Fatally Struck In Nassau: Police

HEMPSTEAD, NY — A male pedestrian, who was struck and killed in a crash over the weekend, has been identified, police said.

Jose Vasquez Ruiz, 42, of Hempstead, was fatally hit by a 2009 Nissan Rogue during the overnight hours on Saturday while attempting to cross Fulton Avenue, police said.

Ruiz suffered severe trauma and was pronounced dead at an area hospital, police said.

The 53-year-old male driver remained at the scene, police said.
