Long Island Weather: 50 MPH Winds, Flooding Possible
See when to expect the worst of the weather. More than 1,000 power outages already reported on the island.

All of Long Island is under a wind advisory until midnight Thursday as a strong frontal system moves through the region, the National Weather Service says.
Wind gusts of 45-50 mph are possible. Winds may blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be also be blown down and a few power outages may result, the weather service says.
As of 5:39 p.m., PSEG Long Island says 1,047 of its customers have lost power. See the outage map.

Rain, mainly after 9 p.m., could be heavy at times and it may stick around through Friday afternoon when there will also be a chance of thunderstorms on the island.
Flooding along the South Shore will also be a concern during the early hours of Friday.

Brief minor flooding of the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline is possible. Breaking waves of up to 10-feet along the Atlantic ocean beachfront may also result in minor beach erosion and wave splash over onto shoreline roads and properties, the weather service says.
The full forecast:
Thursday Night- A chance of showers before 9pm, then rain, mainly after 9pm. The rain could be heavy at times. Low around 52. Windy, with a southeast wind 24 to 29 mph decreasing to 10 to 15 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 41 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
Friday- Rain likely before 8am, then a chance of showers between 8am and 2pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Cloudy, with a high near 62. Southeast wind 5 to 8 mph becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Friday Night- A chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight, then a slight chance of showers between midnight and 2am. Cloudy, then gradual clearing toward daybreak, with a low around 50. Northwest wind 9 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Saturday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 68. Northwest wind around 15 mph.
Saturday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 52.
Sunday- Partly sunny, with a high near 63.
Sunday Night- A 40 percent chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 52.
Monday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 62.
Monday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 46.
