Advisory Against Bathing Issued For 2 Glen Cove Beaches

GLEN COVE, NY — Last week's heavy rainfall has prompted Nassau County health officials to issue an advisory against bathing at 16 beaches, including two in Glen Cove. The advisory will be lifted at 7 a.m. on Tuesday.

In an online bulletin posted Monday, the county's health department said the "advisory is issued as a precautionary measure for beaches known to be impacted by stormwater runoff..."

Officials say stormwater runoff can elevate bacteria levels in the water — making it potentially unsafe to bathe in. Some common bacteria include E. coli and fecal coliform.

The following beaches are under an advisory against bathing on Monday:

• Morgan Sound – Glen Cove
• Pryibil Beach – Glen Cove
• Tappen Beach – Glenwood Landing
• Theodore Roosevelt Beach – Oyster Bay
• Sea Cliff Village Beach – Sea Cliff
• North Hempstead Beach Park – Port Washington
• Biltmore Beach Club – Massapequa
• Laurel Hollow Beach – Laurel Hollow
• Ransom Beach – Bayville
• Centre Island Sound – Bayville
• Soundside Beach – Bayville
• Stehli Beach – Bayville
• Creek Club – Lattingtown
• Lattingtown Beach – Lattingtown
• Piping Rock Beach Club – Locust Valley
• Island Park Beach – Island Park
