Celebrate The Season In Glen Cove 2018: Full Holiday Schedule

The celebrations kick off Saturday, Dec. 1 and continue into 2019.

The City of Glen Cove's long list of holiday celebrations is set to kick off Saturday, Dec. 1.

There will be more holiday festivities this year than the years prior, Glen Cove Mayor Tim Tenke says.

There will be Christmas trees custom decorated by local businesses and families, free horse and carriage rides, hot cocoa and soup, photos with Santa, musical entertainment and more.

“The holidays are a special time in the City of Glen Cove and as we complete our city’s 350th Anniversary celebration we have added a few more holiday activities to make this year’s programs even more fun for our residents, local businesses and visitors,” Tenke said in a press release. “With great shops, restaurants and our beautiful Christmas Tree and Merry Tree Festival, Glen Cove is the perfect holiday destination for families.”

From early December and into 2019, residents will have the chance to attend several holiday happenings, including a Winter Wonderland Event, City Hall Holiday Marketplace, Milk & Cookies with Santa and a food truck festival.

Saturday, Dec. 1

  • Celebrate the Season in the City of Glen Cove with a fun-filled day of holiday frolic, shopping and joy at the Glen Cove Village Hall and Village Square, on Bridge Street.
  • Glen Cove City Hall Holiday Marketplace— from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 9 Glen St. The marketplace will feature homemade, hand crafted and home-based business gifts and goodies. There will be free coffee and hot cocoa. Proceeds will benefit the Friends of Glen Cove Youth.
  • Holiday tree raffle to win one of five Blue Spruce Merry Trees with proceeds benefitting the Friends of the Glen Cove Youth Board.
  • St. Paul’s Holiday Boutique from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 28 Highland Road.
  • Glen Cove Downtown B.I.D.’s Holiday Festival— from 1 to 3:30 p.m. The festival will offer free horse and carriage rides, photos with Santa, free refreshments and live performances
  • Glen Cove’s 350th Anniversary will offer historic mansion bus tours from noon to 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and reservations can be made at www. Glencove350.com. Tours will depart from the back of City Hall, located at 9 Glen St.
  • Celebration of Glen Cove’s Tree of Light with Annual Tree Lighting, Bridge Street and opening of Merry Tree Festival at 4:45 p.m.
  • Residents are encouraged to support Glen Cove businesses during “Shop Small Business” Saturday for their holiday gift shopping.

Saturday, Dec. 1 – Jan. 4, 2018

  • Glen Cove’s 4th Annual Merry Tree Festival- take a walking tour of downtown Glen Cove on School and Glen Streets and see 40 “living” holiday trees that have been custom decorated by area businesses and families. Open daily and in the spring all trees will be planted in City parks/properties with five trees to be planted at Glen Cove’s Christmas Tree Farm in Dennis Brian Murray Park and five trees to be raffled off to residents to help beautify their Glen Cove homes.

Sunday, Dec. 2

  • Glen Cove Chamber of Commerce’s Winter Wonderland at the Glen Cove Mansion from noon to 4 p.m. at 200 Dosoris Lane.

Monday, Dec. 3

  • Lighting of the Grand Chanukah Menorah, on the lawn of the Glen Cove Police Department, located at 1 Bridge St. at 6:30 p.m.

Friday, Dec. 7

  • Blessing of the Crèche at St Patrick’s Church at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 8

  • St. Rocco’s Food Truck Festival & Holiday Extravaganza Boutique, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., at 18 Third St.

Wednesday, Dec. 19

  • Christmas celebration lunch at the Glen Cove Senior Center, located at 130 Glen St. at noon.

Friday, Dec. 21

  • Glen Cove Youth Bureau’s Milk & Cookies with Santa at 6:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. Each registered family will receive a free photo with Santa; enjoy a holiday reading and delicious treats. This is a free event but reservations are required for children for children from infancy to age 10 and their families. Call the Glen Cove Youth Bureau at (516) 671-4600 starting November 20 through December 8 for reservations. Glen Cove residents only and space is limited.

Saturday, Jan. 5

  • Annual Chip-A-Tree Recycling at Morgan Memorial Park from 9 a.m. to 12 noon sponsored by the Glen Cove Beautification Commission. Beginning Dec. 29, trees may be dropped off to a designated area in the Morgan Park lot and those trees will be chipped at the Jan. 5 event.
