Celebrating the Sassanese of Glen Cove

On Aug. 17 Mayor Ralph Suozzi was joined by members of the Club Sassanese of 
America to share in the celebration of the first Annual Emigrant Day as the City of Glen Cove and the Comune di Sassano are now “Friendship Cities”.

The citizens of Sassano and the Sassanese of Glen Cove have always shared a
special relationship. They have kept traditions of their native town alive through 
the establishment of the Club Sassanese D’America and the commemoration of the 
celebration of St. John the Baptist and St. Rocco, the two most important religious 
holidays of Sassano. In recognition of their special bond, the City of Glen Cove passed a Resolution at the July 24,2012 City Council Meeting declaring every August 17th Emigrant’s Day, a day to celebrate the people of Sassano who have made Glen Cove their home.
