Deer's Jump Over Spiked Fence Proves Fatal In Glen Cove

Glen Cove Police are warning residents of an increase in deer sightings in the area.

Glen Cove Police are warning residents of an increase in deer sightings in the area after one deer fatally impaled itself on a fence on Wednesday morning.

According to authorities, a City of Glen Cove Public Works employee called police to report that a deer impaled itself after attempting to jump over a fence surrounding the Woolworth estate on Valley Road at 8:22 a.m.

The deer was dead upon police arrival. This isn't the first time a deer has gotten into an unfortunate predicament in Glen Cove. In 2013, another deer was found impaled on a fence in Glen Cove's North Country Colony.

Police say a deer similar in appearance has been sighted by Glen Cove residents in the recent weeks.

"Glen Cove and the surrounding areas have been getting more and more deer sightings in the recent years," Det. Lt. John Nagle said. "If anyone observes a deer in the area it's never a good idea to approach these animals because they are not domesticated and can injure a person quite easily."
