E-Waste Recycling Drop-Off Saturday

Glen Cove residents and businesses can bring old and unwanted electronics to the Winters Brothers facility on Morris Avenue for safe disposal.

The city's annual Electronic Waste Recycling Program offers Glen Cove residents and businesses the chance to get rid of unwanted electronic devices at Winters Brothers Recycling at the end of Morris Ave. on Saturday from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Acceptable items are: computer monitors and hard drives, printers, keyboards, mice and cables, copiers, fax machines, cell phones, pagers, VCR's, stereos, televisions and electronic games.

Microwaves and small household appliances will not be accepted.

The program is only open to Glen Cove residents and businesses, and proof of residency is required.

Mayor Ralph Suozzi issued a statement saying the city is proud to take a leadership role in recycling such materials.

"The program addresses the growing nationwide problem of e-waste, such as computers, cell phones, televisions, VCR's and stereos. These items not only have a low level of biodegradability, but they contain materials such as lead, copper and other heavy metals that are highly toxic when released into the environment. This program ensures these items will not wind up in a landfill orincinerator,” Suozzi said.
