Fire Tears Through Glen Cove Food Bank, Damages VFW Hall

The fire at NOSH, a food bank in Glen Cove, destroyed refrigerators full of produce and pallets of canned and boxed food, officials said.

GLEN COVE, NY — A fire broke out early Tuesday at a Glen Cove food bank, destroying refrigerators full of produce and pallets loaded with canned and boxed food.

An official at NOSH said the fire has forced the facility to close indefinitely. NOSH, an emergency food delivery program under the North Shore Soup Kitchen, began operating during the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Glen Cove Fire Department responded to the scene just before 7 a.m. on Tuesday. Fire officials believe the fire started on the side of the building, according to News 12.

The basement of the building, which is where members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 347 meet, was also damaged, according to a fire official.
