First Annual Spring Shopping Spree Comes To Glen Head: April 23
Score deals and discounts at the first annual Spring Shopping Spree event in Glen Head.
GLEN HEAD, NY — For some, "shop local" is just a tagline. But for Glen Head resident Deborah Orgel-Gordon, it's a call for solidarity.
Looking to drum up support for small businesses, and to bring the larger community together, Orgel-Gordon has spearheaded Glen Head's first annual "Spring Shopping Spree."
The former business owner hopes it'll be a success.

"I hope this is the first of many," Orgel-Gordon told Patch. "This is our first try."
The event kicks off Saturday at 10 a.m and takes place along Glen Cove Road, Railroad Avenue, and Glen Head Avenue. It'll feature 19 local businesses and vendors, ranging from restaurants and art galleries to fashion boutiques and beauty salons. All of them will offer discounts. Just say "Shop Glen Head" or present your ShopGlenHead.com flyer to an employee.

ShopGlenHead.com is the brainchild of Orgel-Gordon. She launched the website earlier this year to help promote Glen Head-area businesses.
"Glen Head is like the forgotten town," Orgel-Gordon told Patch, noting that surrounding communities — like Glen Cove and Sea Cliff — all have their own craft fairs, special events, and celebrations that highlight businesses. "Glen Head has nothing. That's why I'm really trying to do this."
Rob Mansfield, owner of health foods company Grassroots, said he wants to see Glen Head flourish and credited Orgel-Gordon for helping champion local businesses.
"That woman is a powerhouse, man," Mansfield said in an interview with Patch. "When everyone is in their own world, trying to make their businesses run, she just pulls everyone together. No one is gonna say no to her. It comes from a good place ... she's just extraordinary."
Grassroots is among the 19 businesses participating in Saturday's event. Mansfield says he's giving customers 20 percent off cleanses and 10 percent off anything in-store, excluding gift cards.
Other companies taking part in the shopping spree include Ella's Boutique & AquaBrasil, Lash Lure, Glen Head Flower Shop, and Choppers Burger Bar. All their specials are posted on Shop Glen Head's website.
