GLEN COVE, NY — Glen Cove's seawall is getting some much-needed improvements, the city says. Work on the Morgan Park Seawall Remediation Project has started, and will last for four to six weeks, a spokesperson for Glen Cove's mayor said.

The wall, built in the 1920s, sustained damage during Superstorm Sandy in 2012. In 2020, outgoing State Senator James Gaughran secured $250,000 of state funds to repair it, telling the LI Herald, “Long Island is dealing with the serious threats of climate change including increased and severe coastal storms.”

“The Morgan Memorial Park seawall is the city’s last line of defense to protecting Glen Cove from storm flooding and coastal erosion."

The city tells residents that the steps and path along the seawall will be closed to the public while construction goes on.

Mayor Pamela Panzenbeck spoke to CBS News this week to discuss the seawall work along with other city initiatives.
