Names Erick M. and Katherine V. as November Youth of the Month

(Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club)

Junior Youth of the Month Erick M. is a 10-year-old fifth grader who loves learning, especially math, and is fascinated by books about dinosaurs. Soccer is his favorite sport and activity, both at school and at the Club, where he brings energy and enthusiasm to every game. Since joining the Club last year, Erick has been a shining example of positivity and teamwork. Staff describe him as cooperative and friendly, noting how he tackles challenges with determination and always looks for solutions when something is challenging. Erick thrives in group activities and helps create a supportive, collaborative environment. When asked what the Club means to him, he said, “To me, being here feels like I have people who care about me. It’s like we are all on team.” Erick dreams of becoming a police officer one day, inspired by the officers who visit the Club and show how helping to protect others can make a difference.

Twelve-year-old Senior Youth of the Month, Katherine V. is a seventh grader who loves English and enjoys reading books like Drama by Raina Telgemeier. Since joining the Club last year, Katherine has been an engaged and enthusiastic member of The Pearson Teen Center. Her favorite space at the Club is the gymnasium, where she enjoys playing volleyball with the many friends she has made. She also participates in a variety of activities, baking projects with her peers and group leaders. Described by staff as determined, supportive, and respectful, Katherine consistently participates in activities and helps other members whenever she can. “The Club is the place where I feel included and welcomed. I can be myself here, and it means a lot to me,” said Katherine, reflecting on her experience. Looking ahead, Katherine hopes to become a doctor or nurse, driven by her desire to help people and make a positive impact on others. When not at school or at the Club, she treasures time spent with friends and family.
