Glen Cove Community Collected Over 1K Hand-Knit Items For Veterans
The Glen Cove City Hall Knitting Club, along with the help of other organizations, worked hard to knit and collect items for veterans.

GLEN COVE, NY — The Glen Cove City Hall Knitting Club collected 1,656 items for the Disabled American Veterans organization as part of their Veterans Day donation initiative.
Some of the donated items included hand-knit scarves, hats, sweaters, blankets, underwear, bras, and more. Items were a mix of hand-knit and new, purchased items.
To honor Veterans Day, which fell on 11/11, the group set a goal of 1,111 items– and beat it.

Founders of the Glen Cove City Hall Knitting Club, Susan (Sue) Tripp and Angie Colangelo, meet weekly to knit and coordinate donations, including the Veterans Day drive, which began on Oct. 8 and recently ended.
“Reaching 1,656 items shows how deeply Glen Cove honors its veterans, with every stitch given in gratitude," Tripp said.

Representatives of the Disabled American Veterans were present to receive the donations, including Senior Vice President John F. Scalesi and NY Chapter Adjutant James Brown.
Scalesi said it's important to support his fellow veterans, and the community should help as much as they can.
"We want to give back and thank veterans for their service," he said.
Glen Cove City Hall spearheaded the efforts, but other knitting clubs and individuals helped make this possible. Some of these include the Glen Cove Senior Knitting Club, contributing 200 handmade items, Bayville Hooks and Needles, Knit and Crochet with Kate, Glen Cove High School DECA students, Glen Cove POVA, and City Hall Employees.
