Glen Cove Ferry: City Wants Input On Manhattan Commuter Ferry Plan
After years of delays, Glen Cove's mayor wants to gauge the post-pandemic demand for the commuter ferry service out of Garvies Point.

GLEN COVE, NY—It's been in the works for a while: the Glen Cove commuter ferry service was originally planned to launch in Spring 2020 before COVID-19 hit, and now that Long Islanders are again commuting to Manhattan, the City of Glen Cove is asking for resident input.
The city is watching the numbers of Manhattan to determine when demand can sustain the new service's operations.
The mayor's office is asking residents to fill out a Commuter Ferry Survey to help the city assess when to launch the new ferry.

The ferry would run between the Garvies Point ferry terminal and Midtown Manhattan. The ferry infrastructure has been in place in Glen Cove for six years.
Former Mayor Tim Tenke told ABC 7 News in September 2021 that the city needs 65 to 70 percent of the ferry's ridership capacity filled for the service to be financially viable.
