Glen Cove Fourth Of July Fireworks 2020 Canceled

Glen Cove's traditional Fourth of July events may be canceled, but there are several other ways you can celebrate the holiday safely.

GLEN COVE, NY — Fourth of July events will not look the same this year across the country thanks to the coronavirus, and the same is unfortunately true on Long Island. In Glen Cove, the city confirmed to Patch there will be no fireworks this year, though Mayor Tim Tenke told residents in a robocall police have received an uptick in fireworks-related noise and disturbance calls.

In previous years, residents could head to the annual East Hills fireworks show nearby, but the village mayor said that event also would not be held this year. And those hoping to head to Jones Beach for the annual fireworks show will also be disappointed — that event was canceled, too.

Although Glen Cove-area fireworks, parades and 5Ks have been put on hold, beaches across Long Island remain open, including Jones Beach, which reopened at half capacity, and both Morgan Memorial Park and Pryibil Beach. Both Glen Cove beaches are open until dusk for residents only.

Additionally, indoor and outdoor dining will also be available for residents wanting to get out of the house, as long as the infection rate remains down. Glen Cove has even closed downtown streets to allow for expanded outdoor dining.

Long Island is expected to enter phase three of reopening businesses next week, allowing non hair service-related personal care businesses to reopen, as well as indoor service at restaurants and bars. The reopening comes with severe restrictions, however, such as requiring people to wear masks, social distance from one another and limit capacity to 50 percent.

Due to the pandemic, counties or cities may adjust or cancel events at the last minute. Check your event before you go. Know of other events in the area? Post them on the Patch calendar or share details on our free Neighbor Post feature.
