Glen Cove School Budget, Board Vote Is Tuesday
There are three propositions on the ballot plus the election of school board trustees.

GLEN COVE, NY — Glen Cove residents will go to the polls Tuesday for the annual school board and budget vote.
There are three propositions on the ballot.
Proposition 1 is for the $113,416,040 spending plan. It's 5.02 percent higher than the current budget, but the associated proposed tax levy increase is just 2.768 percent, which is within this year's New York State tax cap for the district.

Proposition 2 seeks voter approval for the establishment of a new capital reserve fund. It would cover various upgrades and renovations such as classroom enhancements, auditorium, gymnasium, cafeteria, and library improvements, as well as technology upgrades, security enhancements, and compliance with ADA requirements. The account, not to exceed $30 million plus investment income, would come from surplus funds, including up to $8,500,000 from the 2023-24 budget and an annual amount of up to $8,500,000 for the following years, over a probable term of 15 years at no additional cost to taxpayers. Once established, the Superintendent of Schools would manage the fund in a separate account named the “Facilities Improvement Program 2024. It would not affect the current tax levy.
Proposition 3 seeks voter approval for the district to spend $9 million from the Capital Reserve Fund established on May 21, 2019. The money would be used for completion of extensions at Deasy and Landing elementary schools including classrooms and furniture; site work at Deasy and Landing including parking lots, additional parking areas, drainage, curbs, and stairs; exterior work at Thayer House including roof, siding, shutters, gutters, leaders, exterior doors, scrape and paint existing fire escape, remove existing exterior vestibule and make new entrance with an ADA compliant ramp and canopy, covering all associated costs like labor, materials, and equipment. This would not affect the current tax levy.
