Glen Cove Schools Remain Open, Plan For Coronavirus Closure
There have been no confirmed cases among district staff or students, so schools are remaining open.
GLEN COVE, NY — The Glen Cove City School District is remaining open, according to a letter from Superintendent Maria Rianna, as there have been no confirmed cases of the coronavirus among district students or staff.
The March 10 closure was due to two people employed by the district's transportation company, but was done so "out of an abundance of caution."
Buses in question have been taken out of service and the entire fleet will be sanitized regularly, the letter says, in some cases with hospital-grade disinfectants.

If a student is confirmed to have been infected with the coronavirus, there will be a 24-hour closure of schools and the Department of Health will contact them and the school to give guidance.
"Please note that today, March 12th, we continue to move forward with an abundance of caution. As we continue to work together to mitigate the spread of illness, please continue to heed the advice recommended by the Department of Health," Rianna said, "including frequently cleaning and disinfecting surfaces, washing your hands, using hand sanitizer and coughing or sneezing into the crook of your elbow, and staying home when sick.
