Memorial Street Sign Dedicated To Fallen Glen Cove Hero
Thomas Murray died after being caught in a firefight with Nazi troops at the Battle of the Bulge. He was 21 years old

The City of Glen Cove honored a fallen World War II hero by placing memorial street sign at Craft Avenue in his name.
Pvt. Thomas Murray, an elite paratrooper, died after being caught in a firefight with Nazi troops at the Battle of the Bulge. He was 21 years old.
“It is imperative to pay homage to those who lost their lives fighting to maintain our country’s freedoms,” Glen Cove Mayor Tim Tenke said. “By making the ultimate sacrifice at the Battle of the Bulge, we want to always remember our hometown hero Pvt. Thomas Murray with a special memorial street sign on the street he grew up on.”

Murray joined the U.S. Army on July 9, 1942 shortly after graduating from Glen Cove High School. He joined the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, part of the 82nd Airborne Division. He participated in the invasion of Normandy, the liberation of the Netherlands and the Battle of Bulge.
The sign in his name was unveiled at a ceremony on June 24. The ceremony was hosted by Glen Cove Veterans Affairs Director Anthony Jimenez and included remarks by his family and Glen Cove City Council members.
