The Glen Cove Mayor's Annual Snapper Derby will be held on Saturday, Aug. 21.
GLEN COVE, NY — The Glen Cove Mayor's Annual Snapper Derby returns Saturday, Aug. 21.
Sponsored by the Glen Cove Anglers Club, this event is for children ages 6 to 16 and is held at Pryibil Beach Fishing Pier, rain or shine.
"After being postponed last year due to COVID, it is great to see that the Snapper Derby is back," said Mayor Tim Tenke. "There is nothing better than seeing all of our young fishing enthusiasts attend such a great tradition in Glen Cove."

Registration will be held the day of the event from 8:15 to 9:30 a.m. Participants will compete for prizes in one of two divisions: the junior division for kids ages 6 to 10; and the senior division for those ages 11 to 16.
Participants must bring their own rod — and while supplies last, they will receive a Snapper Derby t-shirt, a hot dog and soda, and a raffle ticket for prizes. Trophies will be awarded to the top catches of the day in each division, as well as to the Best Angler of the Day.
