Make Your Voice Heard on Gowanus' Future

Weigh in Thursday on the 'Planning Gowanus' project. Can't make it? More meetings will start this fall.

GOWANUS, BROOKLYN — Thursday evening will be your last chance to way in on the Bridging Gowanus community planning process that spent two years asking locals for their ideas on how the neighborhood should development.

But don't worry: if you can't make it, you'll still have plenty of other, post-Bridging Gowanus opportunities to weigh in on the subject.

Bridging Gowanus ran from 2013 to 2015, resulting in a number of planning principles, and specific project recommendations, that residents wanted to guide future development decisions (here's a summary of what was arrived at; a more detailed report is available here).

A series of public meetings and open houses hosted this summer have allowed residents to review and comment on the project's findings. The final such gathering is taking place Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at The Hall of Gowanus, located at 543 Union St. (it's an open house, so you can drop in any time).

But if you can't make it, a new phase of the planning process, this time involving the city's planning department, will begin again this fall, offering plenty of other opportunities to make your opinions on the neighborhood's future heard. If you'd like to stay on top of that meeting schedule, you can sign up for email updates here.
