New Video Shows Person Of Interest In Red Hook 2016 Murder: Cops

Police released a new video and photo in the murder of Sharon Whigham, 51, who was found dead on a bench in 2016.

RED HOOK, BROOKLYN — Police have a new person of interest in a 2016 murder case where a 51-year-old woman was found on a bench with her throat slit.

Sharon Whigham, of Red Hook, was found dead early in the morning of May 19, 2016 just a few blocks from her Columbia Street home. Police found her on a bench outside 110 West 9th Street, the Miccio Community Center, wit her throat slashed, officers said.

She was pronounced dead at the scene and the case was soon determined to be a homicide. Police believe one or more people cut Whigham's throat before placing her on the bench.

They are now asking for the public's help in identifying a person of interest in the case, who is shown on a video released by NYPD.

Police also released a new photo of Whigham.

The 51-year-old was described as "a great person" and "a sweetheart" by family members after her death, according to interviews from the time.

No arrests have been made in the case yet and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
