RED HOOK and GOWANUS, BROOKLYN — Plans to renovate the Ennis Playground in Gowanus and a discussion of the Red Hook Integrated Flood Protection System will top the agenda Wednesday at a meeting of Community Board 6's parks, recreation and environmental protection committee.

The meeting will take place on Sep. 21 at 6:30 p.m. at P.S. 58, located at 330 Smith St.

According to Councilman Brad Lander, who represents Gowanus, Ennis Playground is set to receive "a full upgrade" using $1.85 million from his office and from Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams.

The Parks Department will be unveiling its initial plans for the playground at Wednesday's CB6 meeting and asking for public comment. Lander previously hosted a community listening session in January where the project was discussed.

Additionally, staffers from the Mayor's Office of Recovery and Resiliency will be on hand to give their first official presentation to CB6 on the Red Hook Integrated Flood Protection System.

The $100 million plan, still in the design stages, is the city's attempt to protect Red Hook from rising sea levels using a variety of permanent structures, like gates, walls and raised roads, that will also improve the area's overall infrastructure. The plan was discussed at an April meeting the city hosted in Red Hook. The city has said it's aiming to present a design proposal by October.
