Patch: How long have you been doing business in town or how long has the organization you represent been around in the community?

Dr. Brisman: I joined Neurological Surgery P.C. in 1998, so I’ve been doing business on Long Island for about 19 years.


Patch: What attracted you to the line of work you’re in, and how did you get started?

Dr. Brisman: I had just finished my neurosurgery residency program in Manhattan and wanted a job in the New York area. At the time, there were two senior neurosurgeons at NSPC, Drs. Burstein and Dimancescu, and I liked them.


Patch: If you had to sum up your business mission to a stranger in five words, what would those words be?


Dr. Brisman: Exemplary Brain and Spine Surgery


Patch: What’s the biggest challenge or most difficult moment you’ve faced in your job?


Dr. Brisman: The biggest challenge has been getting all our doctors (now over 20) on the same page, and trying to get paid from the insurance companies.


Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?


Dr. Brisman: The most satisfying part of job for me is being able to make people better and make a real difference in people’s lives. I also like that I am able to provide good jobs to some 150 people (at NSPC) and support my local hospitals (by growing strong surgical programs there).


Patch: How would you say your business or organization distinguishes itself from the others?


Dr. Brisman: I distinguish myself by working harder and providing the best services. I’m also unusually innovative.


Patch: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given when it comes to success?


Dr. Brisman: Work hard.


Patch: Are there any new projects or endeavors you’re working on that you’re extra excited about?


Dr. Brisman: We’ve developed a top-notch sub-specialty neurosurgery program that I’m trying to grow including spine surgery, brain tumor surgery, facial pain surgery, aneurysm surgery, pediatric neurosurgery, epilepsy surgery, movement disorder surgery and chiari malformation surgery. We’ve also developed a great intra-operative neuro-monitoring program for assessing neurological function under anesthesia that we’re trying to expand. We’ve developed an outstanding internet-based program for compiling and communicating hospital patient data that we’re looking to sell to other groups, and we’re also just completing an app to facilitate patient referrals.


Patch: Do you have any events coming up in your community?


Dr. Brisman: We have regular support groups and lectures for the community. We also regularly participate in local medical fundraisers and activities that raise awareness of medical conditions.
