Arrest Made In Great Neck Attempted Burglary: Police

The man tried to enter a residence by cutting open the screen of bedroom window on Tuesday night, police say.

A Great Neck man was arrested for burglary after trying to break into a residence on Tuesday night, police say.

According to authorities, Kevin Avalos-Melendez, 21, went to the rear of a Beach Road residence in Great Neck and cut the screen to a bedroom window as an attempt to enter the home at 11:05 p.m.

A 64-year-old man in the home heard the noise and contacted police. Officers responded and attempted to speak to Avalos-Melendez in the rear of the building, but he ran away, police say.

He was located on Middle Neck Road and was placed into custody at 12:57 a.m. No injuries were reported.

Avalos-Melendez was charged with second-degree burglary.

He will be arraigned on Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
