Great Neck Man Charged With DWI

A craving for a midnight snack has left several people injured, and one Great Neck resident in some legal trouble.

Great Neck resident Daniel Zucker was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and second degree Vehicular Assault after a traffic incident involving an ambulance and another car early Wednesday, Nassau Police said.

Zucker was on his way to a McDonald’s in Franklin Square at 2 a.m. when he allegedly made a sharp left turn into the driveway, cutting off an ambulance, according to Nassau County Police. The ambulance went careening into the opposite part of the intersection, nearly hitting several utility poles. Meanwhile Zucker’s car hit a Mercedes Benz that was exiting the drive though, and had two males, ages 22 and 13, inside, police said.

Nobody in the Mercedes was injured, but a 19-year-old male passenger in Zucker’s car was transported to a local hospital. A 37-year-old advanced medical technician in the ambulance was also admitted to the hospital.

Police allege Zucker was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. He was arrested and later taken to a hospital. Both Zucker and the alleged victims are in stable condition.

Zucker will be arraigned as soon as practical, police said.
