Master Pastelist to Teach Portrait Workshop at Art Guild

Program takes place at Elderfields Preserve on Port Washington Boulevard in Manhasset

Award-winning artist and Master Pastelist Diana De Santis will teach a two-day workshop “The Art of The Portrait,” in pastel or oil paint, April 18 and 19, at The Art Guild at Elderfields Preserve, 200 Port Washington Blvd.

Artists will be taught to make portraits come alive by capturing the inner spirit of a person. This intensive two-day workshop on the art of the portrait in pastel or oil paint includes two lectures, and a question-and-answer session. Each student will have four critiques per day. On Sunday there will be a general critique of the finished paintings. Bring your own lunch for a half-hour lunch break each day.

Materials list provided at registration. Tuition is $350 for Art Guild members and $380 for non-members (includes model fee).

Diana De Santis is a portrait painter who also teaches still-life and landscapes. She is a graduate of the Parsons School of Design and attended Traphagen School of Design. She was awarded a scholarship by the Arts Students League and studied with David Leffel and Harvey Dinnerstein.

She is a master pastelist at the International Association of Pastel Societies; a signature member of Pastel Society of America and Knickerbocker Artists, U.S.A.; a fellow of American Artist Professional League and a member of Hudson Valley Artists, Audubon Artists, Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, and the Portrait Society of America. She is listed in “Who’s Who in American Art“ and is a Coast Guard artist. De Santis has been awarded 15 gold medals and more than 250 awards. Her work has been published in American Artist, Artist Magazine, The Pastel Journal and by Rockport Publishers.

De Santis has shown her work at the Nassau County Museum of Art; Heckscher Museum, Huntington; National Arts Club, Manhattan; Salmagundi Club, Manhattan and Pastel Society exhibits in France, Italy and Russia.

Spring classes for children and adults at The Guild begins in March and April. A call for artists has gone out for the next exhibit Home on The Range: Landscapes We Love (deadline March 6).
